Our History
Roberto Giansiracusa's father, Luigi Giansiracusa, immigrated to the United States from Italy, bringing with him a trade as a tailor and a dream of one day owning his own apparel company. Beginning his work in the United States in 1958, Luigi built his skills and reputation over the years, with his wife Ines playing an instrumental role in the decision-making of the growing business. Through hard work and perseverance, Luigi realized that dream, laying the foundation for what would eventually become GimaSport.
Continuing that family legacy in the textile industry, GimaSport was founded in 1992 by Roberto Giansiracusa, based in Hartford's South End. What started as a continuation of his father's trade has grown into a premier, full-service provider of embroidery, screen printing, direct-to-film printing, and promotional products.
Today, GimaSport operates out of a 13,500-square-foot facility equipped with 55 embroidery heads, 2 automatic screen printing presses, and 6 heat press machines. The company serves a wide range of customers, including '47 Brand, Airport Auto Body, Great Path Academy, the CIAC, Vida Vibe Volleyball, UConn, and The Bushnell as well as custom web stores for high schools and colleges throughout the state and across the country.
One tradition GimaSport is locally known for is producing "Hot Market" championship hats for '47 Brand. These celebratory hats are manufactured within hours of the final whistle of a Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup, NBA Championship, or NCAA National Championship, and shipped nationwide almost immediately. The GimaSport team has produced runs of roughly 5,000 championship hats following national championships. This fast-turnaround tradition has earned local news coverage for the Hartford-based company.
More than three decades after its founding, GimaSport remains family-run - a story that began with one immigrant's trade and a dream, carried forward into a modern manufacturing operation serving businesses, schools, and organizations across the country.
